Redefining 5.1 : Presentation 2

Four Questions

In a meeting with Abigail last Tuesday, 2 February, I was asked to answer the following four questions:

  1. What is my core motivation?

Every attendee should walk away with an experience that is interactive, mellifluous, and memorable. Indeed, experiences like these abound, but I want each audience member to recall this performance like I remember going to Disneyland® as a child: moving.

  2. What is the key to the audience experience that I'd like to provide?

The headphones are the primary component of the user experience in this project. Wearing them empowers the user to take control of what their particular audio experience will be like.

  3. What is the burning question to which this project is the answer?

Is there a fully–immersive, interactive, live music performance that I can attend in which I play a real–time role in the music I hear?

  4. What does the piece do beyond the sum of the aforementioned three questions?

It presents a new method by which to interact with music, possibly generating discourse for further exploration in the interactive music genre.
